Dog Friendly Cottages in Devon & Dorset

Dog-friendly

Click here to view our pet-friendly cottages. And please be sure to read the rules and advice on bringing a pet, here.

If you are going away for a holiday or short break, it’s nice, not to mention practical, to be able to take your four-legged friend with you. Many of our self-catering holiday cottages allow you to share your holiday fun with your dog and are close to some great dog-friendly beaches and days out.

East Devon’s beaches like Beer and Seaton, for example, provide lovely beaches with a vast amount of car parking and you can take your dog here to enjoy a run and a dip between 1st October and 30th April (restrictions are in place during the summer months) – please click here for details.

SEASIDE TOWNS AND VILLAGES:

Coastal towns and villages in East Devon and West Dorset ideal for promenades with the pooch include:

Sidmouth

An elegant Regency town framed by impressive red sandstone cliffs and with a long esplanade along the pebble beach, formal gardens overlooking the beach and town, and a charming centre with food, clothing and curiosity shops as well as a great choice of places to eat. The main beach allows dogs October to end April and Jacob’s Ladder Beach allows dogs year-round at the eastern end of the beach.

Branscombe

A picture-postcard village with thatched cottages and a church with a view – Branscombe is also purportedly the longest village in the country! It sits in a spectacular valley and has a long pebble beach complete with rock-pools at low tide. Dogs are allowed on the beach October to end April.

Lyme Regis

This much-loved town is next to the Devon-Dorset border and is known for its harbour sea defence called The Cobb, used in films including The French Lieutenant’s Women starring Meryl Streep and featured in Jane Austen’s Persuasion. The town is a hub of activity with events, art galleries, shops and restaurants open year-round. Dogs are allowed on the main beach October to end March and on East Cliff Beach and nearby Monmouth Beach year-round.

WALKING ROUTES:

The Jurassic Coast has part of the 630 miles of South West Coast Path that starts in Somerset and covers the Devon and Cornwall coastlines and into Dorset. So if you and your pooch like coastal walking, there’s plenty of choice here!

East Devon has plenty of heathland forming part of the Clinton Devon Estates that have around 10 miles of permissive trails. The areas include Woodbury Common, Colaton Raleigh Common, Mutter Moor and Bicton Common.

EATING OUT:

There are many places to eat during your stay that allow dogs – these include:

- The Honiton Inn, Awliscombe
- The Golden Hind, Musbury
- Mason Arms, Branscombe Village
- Tuckers Arms, Axminster
- Dolphin Hotel, Beer (dogs allowed in the bar/lounge)
- The Bell Cliff, Lyme Regis
