The Local area & attractions

The pretty village of CHARDSTOCK dating back to 1164 with traditional inn and PO/Stores is 4 miles away.  Close to borders of Dorset and Somerset – an ideal touring centre for all three counties. Ideally situated to access the Blackdown Hills and Hardy’s Dorset. Mainline station from Waterloo.

SEATON, DEVON, is a popular seaside town on the Jurassic Coast, a 15 minutes drive from Axminster.


Pretty, friendly, traditional seaside town, the first in East Devon from Dorset, situated at the mouth of the River Axe overlooking the spectacular Lyme Bay. Bright, relaxed and uncommercialized resort with mixture of Victorian & Edwardian architecture and pedestrianised town centre. Superb mile long pebble beach with promenade with rock pools at Seaton Hole on the western end.


Unique scenic walks along the South West Coastal Path to Lyme Regis by the famous Landslip and over the cliffs to Beer. The Jubilee and Seafield Gardens with Cactus House, children’s playground, putting green and tennis courts are ideal places to visit. Open top tram travels by the beautiful River Axe Valley, the Nature Reserve for wildlife enthusiasts – a bird lovers paradise to nearby Colyford and Colyton. Many amenities:- Golf course, Putting, bowling, tennis, fishing, sailing, windsurfing and the Heritage Museum.


Also worth a visit is the award winning Seaton Labyrinth. A 60ft diameter spiral walk, made from seven types of stone from the world heritage coast, taking in 185m years of geological evolution, over it’s quarter mile length.

 Monthly farmers’ indoor market on a Friday in the Town Hall 9 am - 1 pm.  

SEATON BEACH South facing, gently sloping pebble mile long beach.  Lovely rock pools at eastern and western ends.  Area of Outstanding natural Beauty, beach huts, deckchair hire, disabled access.  No dogs on beach 1st May to 30th September Castle Hill - River Axe.

Picture Village of AXMOUTH with two popular inns, are a lovely level walk along the Estuary.
