The name Beer comes from the Old English 'Bearu', a grove, small wood

Unspoilt picturesque fishing village of smugglers and lace making fame.  Jack Rattenbury, known as the Rob Roy of the West, a famous 19th century smuggler is celebrated on Rattenbury Day in September. 


Holiday Accommodation in BeerA small brook flows down through the village to the sea, with small bay and sheltered pebble beach, nestling between striking chalk cliffs of Seaton Hole and Beer Head.  Pleasure boats, fishing trips, freshly caught crabs, lobsters and fish for sale.  Beach cafes serving excellent cooked breakfasts, light meals, local crab sandwiches and Devon cream teas.  Interesting Roman quarry caves. Miniature and model railways, pleasure gardens, art galleries, antiques, inns and restaurants.  The popular Beer Regatta is held annually on the second Thursday after the first Monday in August.

Beer, Devon is an ideal base to walk the South West Coast Path, to Seaton and Lyme Regis in one direction and to Branscombe and Sidmouth in the other.  The Rhythm and Blues Festival weekend takes place in early October.

BEER BEACH  South facing, sloping pebble beach, in sheltered cove.  Nearby Jubilee Gardens offer lovely views of the bay.  Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  Beach huts, deckchair hire, boat and fishing trips, boat hire, disabled access. No dogs 1st May to 30th September west side of beach.
