A delightful detached ‘Chocolate Box’ thatched cottage, Grade II listed, retaining its charming period features, believed to be one of the oldest 16th century cottages in the seaside village of Branscombe.  The lovely beach with its licensed restaurant/cafe and shop is a five minute drive away or reached by walking through the bluebell woods and along the spectacular Jurassic coastline.

Idyllically situated in a large cottage style garden with its 500 year old yew tree and surrounded by beautiful National Trust countryside, in this picturesque seaside village. A delight for birdwatchers, with gold crests in the yew tree, buzzards and peregrine falcons soaring the skies above the cottage.

Accommodation:

Cosy, charmingly furnished with care and character in a traditional ‘Cottage’ style, retaining beams and original features.

Thatched porch entrance.

Sitting Room, with inglenook and wood burning stove, window seats, stone flagged floors, beams and old world features.

Well-equipped Kitchen/Diner.

Outdoor Facilities:

Large, enclosed, front garden attractively planted with rambling roses, honeysuckle, cottage plants and herbs. Cast iron table and chairs – a real suntrap ideal for al fresco meals.

Delicious home cooked food and drinks can be ordered and picked up by guests from The Fountain Head, opposite, and taken to the cottage to eat in Yew Tree’s lovely garden or cottage, if preferred.

Parking: Off road parking for one car in front of cottage.

Saturday changeover. Arrival: From 2 pm. Departure: By 10 am. Pets most welcome, a fixed charge of £25 pw or part week per pet. No smoking in property please.

N.B. Care to be taken – some low beams and ceilings.  Regret unsuitable for the less mobile.  Access information available on request.

Additional information from the owner: ‘About a 20 minutes lovely walk to the beach with lots to look at (apart from the valley countryside there is the church, forge, Old Bakery Tea Rooms and garden – this could be a good part way stop). The Donkey Sanctuary is walkable to or from the cottage and a local bus could take guests there too!’

The Fountain Head traditional inn serving excellent home cooked food and local brews is only a stone’s throw away. Also in the village is the renowned Mason Arms Inn serving an ‘A la Carte’ menu, a working forge, Old Bakery Tea Rooms and Gardens with a working water mill nestling nearby to Branscombe’s beautiful Norman church.

Many walks on the doorstep along the spectacular coastline and in the wooded coombes and beautiful valleys, with their abundance of wildflowers in the hedgerows.

The picturesque fishing village of Beer and the Regency coastal town of Sidmouth, with all its amenities, are just a short drive away. Sidmouth’s Donkey Sanctuary, famous for homing thousands of donkeys in acres of pastureland with lovely walks to Weston Mouth is well worth a visit.
