Local Nature Reserves and Walks

AXMOUTH TO LYME REGIS UNDERCLIFFS

Part of the Jurassic Coast, 7 mile spectacular walk from Axmouth, along land slipped cliffs, famous for geological features and rich flora and fauna. A great experience through wild unspoilt countryside.

SEATON MARSHES

Close to the River Axe, a haven for birds and wildlife. Easy pathways and a viewing hide overlook the beautiful Nature Reserve and Estuary.

COLYTON COMMON

Close to Seaton, an important wetland and salt marsh site on the Axe Estuary with rare flora and fauna and important species. Viewing platform with fantastic views.

HOLYFORD WOODS

A beautiful ancient woodland in picturesque valley, close to Seaton. A diverse range of trees harbouring birds, bats and animals. A magnificent display of Spring bluebells.

TRINITY HILL

Area of lowland, a haven for heather, outstanding views across the Axe Valley to Axminster 2 miles away. One hour walk along perimeter path to spot the birds and unusual animals.

FIRE BEACON HILL

Aptly named as this was the site of a Beacon to notify of the impending Spanish Armada. Birds and butterflies inhabit the low growing tress, bushes and bracken. Superb views to Lyme Bay from the top of the hill.

EXMOUTH

The largest Local Nature Reserve in Devon, huge area of tidal sand and mud south of the Exe Estuary. Spectacular sight of birds through out the year. And nearby:-

THE MAER

An area lying behind the large sand dunes, at the Eastern end of the Espalande and park. A close look needed to espy the varied insects, rare plants and grasses that inhabit the dunes.

BLACKBURY CAMP

Situated in Southleigh, Nr Seaton. An Iron Age Hill fort situated by woodland and surrounding farmland. Fantastic display of bluebells in the Spring.
