Our Story

Milkbere Cottage Holidays, A Family Business

The Director of Milkbere holiday cottages in Devon and Dorset, Louise Hayman, takes time out to tell you all about the history of the Company, and why she loves it here along the Jurassic Coastline……

Milkbere, was established by my family in the mid 1970’s, in an era of great change in the accommodation industry, and being one of the first self-catering holiday letting agencies in the area of East Devon and West Dorset, it was a big job!

The family company was initially set up to let several of their own cottages and apartments. Holiday letting was then very successful with people from all over wanting to enjoy some of the best holiday cottages Devon and Dorset has to offer, and from this, second homeowners started to approach Milkbere to let their own holiday homes. We are always looking to increase our portfolio of holiday cottages in Devon and Dorset and self-catering accommodation on the Jurassic Coast, so if you have a second home you are thinking of letting out please be in touch.

I have worked for the company since the age of 14, helping out in the school holidays. I then took a break out for my studies and achieved a BA (Hons) in Business Studies. This has then helped me since I took over the complete running of the holiday letting business in 2002.

Over the many years since the company began, the portfolio grew, offering an excellent selection of self-catering accommodation in Devon and Dorset, on or near the Jurassic coast. Milkbere has become a ‘Jurassic Coast Quality Business’ and also a ‘VisitEngland Accredited Agency’, which means that all our processes and procedures have been checked for holidaymakers and owners alike.

As with many businesses and industries, the whole process of holiday letting has changed dramatically from the advertising, enquiries, bookings and customer service. Milkbere has adapted over the years to embrace these changes including computerization affecting the company. Several years ago, Milkbere changed its company logo to give it a more modern feel.

One aspect that has dramatically changed, as everyone is now aware of, is the importance of social media, which we are now actively engaged in, providing all the latest events updates, offers, competitions and some great images! Why not give us a follow on Facebook and Twitter to have a look at all the great work we do….

I have always enjoyed living and working in Devon and I am very lucky to be able to take advantage of the beautiful coastline and countryside on the doorstep! As an animal lover I am also proud to be able to offer some of the best dog friendly cottages in Devon and Dorset, and direct our visitors to all the great things to do in Devon and Dorset, including the infamous South West Coast Path which is very popular for dog walkers.

There is so much to see and do, places to visit, excellent coastal walks and a wide selection of inns and places to eat, that you can never get bored! Whether in our Seaton self-catering accommodation, to our holiday cottage in Beer, we will always help you find the best things to do in Devon and Dorset.

So, if you have any questions, want to know our favourite things to do or just say hi, get in touch by visiting our Facebook and Twitter, have a look at our self-catering holiday cottages in Devon and Dorset on our website or pop into our office in Seaton, only a 2-minute walk from the stunning seafront.
